Boulder Creek Park

Restoration efforts at Boulder Creek continued steadily throughout 2025. A total of 13 volunteers contributed nearly 40 hours of work during the year. Spring activities included clearing brush from trees that had fallen in late 2024 and removing invasive species such as garlic mustard, dame’s rocket, burdock, and Virginia stickseed.  In the fall, work expanded across the trail toward the pond, where buckthorn, mulberry, and wayfaring viburnum were cut and treated. Downed deadwood was removed, and several box elders were girdled.  Following snowfall, the newly cleared area was seeded and additional seed was applied to a previously treated with limited germination.

The primary goals for spring of 2026 include removing non-native forbs and trimming the lower branches of European linden to increase light penetration. Removal of buckthorn and other undesirable tree species will continue as conditions permit–either following bud break or in the fall–to continue opening up the view towards the pond.
